Book Summary
For his whole entire life, Jacob has been living on stories full of monsters and orphanages and of course, photos of peculiar children. Told from grandfather, Abraham Portman, all those stories has been based on his grandfather's life. Jacob himself wanted to believe those stories himself, but he couldn't make himself believe it. Or at least, until he saw what had killed his grandfather. And it was just what his grandfather described it. A monster.
Thinking that he was crazy to see a monster that nobody believes in or see, he decided the only way to prove if his grandfather's stories was true was to go there himself. As he traveled across the world from Florida to Cairnholm Island, Jacob didn't only discovered the house and more peculiar photographs but he realizes that the peculiar children can still be alive today.
As Jacob soon realized that all of his grandfather's "fairy tales" were true, he regretted telling his grandfather that he didn't believe his stories anymore. He blames himself about his grandfather's horrific tragedy. He would tell himself that none of this would happen if he believed his grandfather and trusted him.
But when Jacob thinks everything would be fine, everything went upside down. He realized that those he had trusted weren't who they really were. Jacob practically led them to their special prize where they can find the peculiar children: Cairnholm Island. Those Jacob thought were who they were turns out to be monsters. Monsters that has killed his grandfather. Monsters who hunts down any children with a hint of peculiarity. Monsters that Jacob had led to their prize.
